Why This Acura NSX Type-S Restomod Will Make Porsche And McLaren Anxious

HotCars' Rostislav Prokop creates a cool first-gen NSX Restomod with a 600-HP hybrid V6. This modern Acura sportscar is here to show who's the boss!

The first-generation Acura NSX is an iconic sports car from Honda. This Japanese precision machine did what the modern-day Porsche 911 achieved, but back in the 90s. And the second-generation NSX achieved what the McLaren Artura is trying to impress us with, but back in 2017. In short, the NSX sports car has always been ahead of its time.

But sadly, Honda decided to pull the plug, after six years of existence, with the 2022 Acura NSX. We don't like that a bit. So, our render magician, Rostislav Prokop, decided to bring the best of both the Acura/Honda NSX generations together in a cool restomod creation.

This HotCars Exclusive NSX redesign is based on the 2002 Acura NSX and gets a cool and sharp modern makeover. Sick LED lighting and a cool aerodynamic body are just skimming the surface. Its perfect weight distribution and practical yet grin-worthy V6 engine are what will make modern lords from Porsche and McLaren sweat.

HotCars Exclusive NSX Type S Redesign Is Aggressive Yet Nostalgic

The first-generation NSX was a luxury sports car, and Honda wanted to take on the Ferrari 328 and 348 with it. And the best way to tackle Italian drama is with design. And the first-gen NSX was a gorgeous JDM sports car. The only major visual redesign it got was in 2002, when the pop-up headlights were swapped for fixed units. Prokop has also taken the last-updated model of the first-gen NSX for this cool Restomod.

The NSX design is so good that Prokop decided not to fiddle with perfection! And so our NSX Type S Restomod retains the same dimensions and silhouette as the stock car. Major design updates are confined to the front and rear. The front bumper gets an aggressive and aerodynamic redesign inspired by the second-gen NSX, with a notably bigger air dam. The headlamps have been swapped for radical LED units that look sick.

The custom hood gets a deep scoop in the center, which aids in downforce and better airflow. The rear fascia is way cooler because of the Halo-styled LED tail lamp assembly that stretched the full width of this NSX Restomod. The rear bumper also gets an aggressive redesign to sync with the front. Gone is the twin-exit exhaust system. Prokop has slapped on a triple center-exit exhaust system inspired by the Honda Civic Type R.

The integrated spoiler has been replaced with a taller carbon fiber unit. Also, rather mellow, yet aerodynamically functional are the front splitter and the rear integrated diffuser. And the new "Acura" logo adorns both faces. Our NSX Restomod gets cool upsized five split-spoke alloy wheels that add further to the visual drama. The perfect mixture of modern aggression and nostalgic design has never been more satisfying.

This Honda NSX Type S Restomod Packs A Hybrid V6 Engine

A V6 engine has always been the perfect companion for the Acura NSX. It started off with a humble 270-HP naturally-aspirated V6 and ended life as a 290-HP 3.2-Liter NA V6 in 2007. Honda took a bold decision to bring back the V6 in the second-gen NSX, but with an electric twist. And it is the same hybrid twin-turbo V6 engine from the second-gen NSX that powered our cool Honda NSX Type S Restomod.

We have specifically used the one from the limited-edition 2022 Honda NSX Type S that churns out a combined 600 hp and 492 lb-ft of torque. The genius of this powertrain is its three electric motors (two in the front and one near the engine at the rear), which provide impressive AWD capabilities. Adding more driving appeal to this package, we added a performance air suspension setup to do justice to the NSX's "luxury" side.

Acura NSX Type S Restomod Vs Pinnacle Of Modern Sports Cars

The first-gen Acura NSX intended to face Ferraris. But our desirable NSX Type S Restomod has a different approach by taking the fight to the best sports cars of today. The first-gen NSX's greatest advantage was its low curb weight, low center-of-gravity, and impressive body weight distribution. This made it capable of being relevant against more powerful sports cars and even supercars of the 90s on a racetrack. We have taken that perfect package and added more than double the power that the first-gen NSX had.

Our NSX Type S Restomod has the brawn to make the Porsche 911 Turbo sweat on the racetrack. Its efficient powertrain is enough to make the McLaren Artura insecure about its "efficient supercar tag" as well! If we talk about numbers, the 2023 911 Turbo churns out 572 HP from a twin-turbocharged flat-six. The 2023 Artura used a hybrid twin-turbo V6 that pumps out a combined 671 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. The Artura has 71 horses more than our NSX Type S Restomod, but theoretically, our creation is a tad bit lighter on the scale than the 3,303-pound McLaren.
