Why The Wrecked 2005 Ford GT Is The Best Gas Monkey Garage Build On Fast N Loud

Richard Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage rebuilt a crashed Ford GT ford Fast 'N Loud, with the work they did creating probably their best ever build.

Given the work they put in though, it was clear that what Rawlings and the team had created was epic. A lot of attention and detail went into the Ford GT rebuild and it might just be the best that the garage has ever done. What they came up with was a truly epic creation.

Richard Rawlings and the Gas Monkey Garage team are famous for some epic custom-builds. Perhaps the very best Gas Monkey build though is the 2005 Ford GT from Fast ‘N Loud. A car that certainly caused a headache or two for Rawlings and the team. Rawlings and the garage spent a lot of money on the rebuild of the GT which had actually come to them as a crash damaged car. Despite all their work, the Ford GT didn’t do as well as Rawlings had hoped when it went for auction.

Richard Rawlings Bought A Crashed Ford GT On Fast N' Loud

How Rawlings and his Fast ‘N Loud team came about building this Ford GT is quite interesting. The car was in fact crashed prior to Rawlings and the garage getting it, and they went through it top to bottom to create the build. This even saw the garage work with Penske, who helped them put a one-off air-ride suspension system into the GT too. The GT was then finished in a sensational black color scheme, glossy, with a big rear diffuser and it was also lowered to the ground. What was once a wreck was now the ultimate custom Ford GT.

Initially, Rawlings was never going to sell the car. He had hoped to cling onto it forever, and keep it a permanent member of Gas Monkey Garage. However, he had to sell it in order to get some more money for the business. This was all done via Barrett-Jackson. Despite all the hard work put into the car, for some reason not enough people bit when it came up for auction. The GT sold but as Rawlings said in a recent YouTube video, not for enough money. And in today’s world of inflation, for really not enough money.

Gas Monkey Garage Poured A Lot Of Money Into Their Ford GT

Rawlings and the team poured a lot of money into the 2005 Ford GT. The rarity of the original car meant it wasn’t the cheapest even if it was effectively a write-off. While Rawlings hasn’t said how much they spent on the car, the tone from him speaking about it hints a lot of money went into it. When it did go for auction though, Gas Monkey Garage found themselves only about to sell the car for $230,000.

This is despite the Gas Monkey Garage work, and the fact it was a Fast ‘N Loud TV build. It's one of the best modified Ford GTs in existence, so in reality someone got a bit of a bargain deal for it. It is a sad reality of running a business that Rawlings had to sell the car. However, what makes it worse is the rather nomadic existence the car has had since then. This rather wonderful Ford GT from the show is now part of someone’s private hoard and collection, as a lot of Ford GTs from 2005 have sadly become.

A Poor Auction Led To A Rather Quiet Future For The Gas Monkey Ford GT

After that rather poor auction, the 2005 Ford GT went to its new home. It was then bought by someone who had gone to a lot of the Barrett-Jackson auctions in the past. Into a car trailer it went and it went up North before sitting in that trailer, with a load of other cars and since then it has not moved. So despite the work to get this car back up and running, restore it into a pristine state and revitalize it, it's now sitting as part of someone’s hoard.

Since then, the owner has not budged on Rawlings attempts to buy it back from him. Meaning this Gas Monkey Garage build is now a bit of a garage queen. A life that this car does not deserve.

The Fast ‘N Loud Ford GT Deserves A Better Home

This Gas Monkey Garage build certainly deserves a better home. The Fast ‘N Loud episode showcasing the Ford proves that. The Ford GT is super clean, with its smooth lines and great looks from every angle. It's difficult to understand why this car is now living a very sheltered life, where the incredible work by Rawlings and his team can’t get shown off. We think it is probably the best build the team ever did. They took a written off supercar, one of the rarest ever, and gave it a new lease of life. Even if the modifications aren’t to everyone’s taste, you cant fault the craftsmanship that went into it.
